Brown Capital Management is pleased to announce the appointment of Damien L. Davis, CFA, to the position of Chief Investment Officer (CIO), effective Jan. 1, 2024. 

Damien is taking over the role of CIO from Chief Executive Officer Keith Lee. This announcement is the second of two appointments that Keith said he would make when he became CEO in January 2022. The first was the appointment of Robert Young III to President in January 2023. 

In his new role as CIO, Damien Davis will assume leadership of the firm's investment process and execution, as well as overseeing the portfolio management teams. With 18 years of experience at Brown Capital, Damien has consistently demonstrated his deep understanding of how to identify and invest in Exceptional Growth Companies (EGCs). Damien has been a member of Brown Capital’s Small Company Team since 2010, and a member of the firm’s Management Committee since 2020. 

"Brown Capital is a bottom-up, benchmark-agnostic growth equity manager that thinks and invests differently than other asset managers," says Keith Lee, chief executive officer of Brown Capital Management, “so the role of CIO here is different, too.” At many firms, the CIO sets top-down asset allocation policy, and establishes sector and country weightings, among other responsibilities. None of that is relevant to Brown Capital’s investment approach. Instead, Damien will focus on the core of the firm’s expertise—the nuts and bolts of researching EGCs. "Damien’s deep understanding our Exceptional Growth Company approach, combined with his leadership skills, make him the ideal person to guide our investment team into the future," Keith says.
