International Team Changes

Three important announcements position Brown Capital for future growth

As part of Brown Capital’s evolution, we have three important announcements to share.

First, Mid Company Team members Kayode Aje, CFA, Kwame Webb, CFA, and Ed Zane will officially join the International Team as portfolio managers effective July 15, 2024. You may recall that in the third quarter of 2023, two International Team members left the firm for individual reasons. At that time, CEO Keith Lee announced that the five members of the Mid Company Team would provide research support to the International Team on an interim basis. Keith also emphasized that we would take our time before deciding on the ultimate composition of the International Team. Nine months later, it is clear that the expanded team has cohered nicely, and it is time to make the new team official. Importantly, CEO Keith Lee and Executive Chairman Eddie Brown will continue to provide oversight of the International Team.

Second, Walt Pearson, a portfolio manager on the Mid Company Team and member of the firm’s Management Committee, retired on June 30, 2024. Walt joined the firm nearly two decades ago, in February 2005, and has been an integral part of the growth of the firm over the years. We thank Walt for his friendship and his many contributions to Brown Capital over the years. We wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement.

Third, to accommodate the move of the three portfolio managers to the International Team, we are terminating the Mid Company strategy, including both the separately managed accounts (SMA) and the Mid Company Fund. With $102 million in assets as of June 30, 2024, the Mid Company strategy’s termination does not represent the loss of significant assets for the firm. Instead, it allows us to focus on our International Small Company and International All Company strategies, two growth drivers for Brown Capital going forward. We should complete the mutual fund termination by August 12, 2024, and we are reaching out to SMA holders individually to discuss the timing and process for closing the accounts.

We appreciate the patience that clients have displayed with us over the last few quarters. We hope you share our confidence that these decisions will best serve our clients in the years and decades to come. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
